To all our Instructing Solicitors and others who attended, made donations or contributed otherwise to make the Oil Barons' Ball on 7th October 2006 such a success, from 2 Gray's Inn Square Chambers and from the NSPCC

We are pleased to announce that this event has raised for the NSPCC the sum of

£7,409.23

Below is the text of the letter dated 1 February 2007 from Simi Treanor (Head of Events & Corporate Fundraising of the NSPCC) addressed to Philip McCormack (of 2 Gray's Inn Square Chambers):

"We really cannot thank you enough for all the time and effort you put in to organizing the Oil Barons Ball and raising the brilliant total of £7,409.23 for children.

We are so grateful to 2 Gray's Inn Square Chambers for choosing to suppor the NSPCC because as you know we rely on 85% of our income coming from voluntary donations. This means events like the Oil Barons Ball are vital as they enable us to continue running the 180 projects and services we have across the country protecting children and helping them to overcome the devastating effects of abuse. In 2006 the NSPCC 24 hour Helpline took nearly 150,000 calls. Thirty-three thousand of these calls were regarding child welfare and resulted in 9,200 referrals to social services and police which involved a total of 19,000 children at risk of abuse. We would not be able to protect these children without the generous support of individuals and companies like you.

Please do pass on our sincere thanks to your committee and everyone at 2 Gray's Inn Square Chambers. The money you raised will make a real difference to the lives of many children throught the UK."
